Let’s take a look at capacitive switches with tactile feedback, noticeably versatile design and systematically sustainable assembly concept. The newly developed “Tactile Key” provides a user friendly operating concept with various new features for capacitive switches. It stands out to conventional solutions with significant differences that can be seen and felt.

Intuitive operation with tactile feedback

Conventional capacitive keys are often located behind a flat glass surface. During operation, the user must shift focus from the actual application to the respective input device in order to select the correct function. With our newly developed design, capacitive switches become tactile. This allows the user to fully concentrate on the application and execute the commands via the control panel intuitively providing more user comfort.

The button surfaces can be raised or recessed into the control panel as desired with custom backlighting. For security reasons, simply approaching the buttons does not trigger any function: the command is only carried out when the finger is completely on the button surface.
Integrated haptic feedback via vibration ensures even clearer feedback.

Sustainable design concept

Design and assembly for improved sensitivity, easier repairs and reduced waste. Thanks to an effectively reduced structure, the electronics can be easily removed and separated from the front panel. With the Tactile Key concept, the individual assemblies are screwed together and can be quickly and easily repaired, replaced and even recycled. However, with conventionally bonded structures, repairs are difficult or, in most cases, impossible. The entire device has to be disposed of and replaced, which leads to a significantly higher expenditure of time and money – and, last but not least, creates a lot of electronic waste.

This new concept also solves another problem: the capacitive sensor is connected directly to the user interface which results in no more annoying air gaps that can negatively impact sensitivity or have to be bridged electronically.

Even 3D-shaped surfaces are no longer a problem with Tactile Key: deformed, curved plastic panels can be used as control fronts if necessary; pure display surfaces can also be raised and fully backlit. And even at a viewing angle of 180°, the backlit display can still be seen very clearly. A function that particularly optimizes the usability of specific control units that have to be operated while lying down.
