For several years now, Hoffmann + Krippner has been installing EL-sheets. This technology allows for keyboards to be completely illuminated in one color. However, each button can now stand out individually.
The different colored SideLEDs are simply mounted on the PCB and illuminated in bright colors using diffusing panels. The sophisticated film structure developed by H+K provides the necessary light isolation and, therefore, the capability of illuminating individual keys.

This technology can of course be customized according to desired specifications:
Through embossing of the key surfaces or the application of GT domes, the design foil can be refined. The keyboard thickness can vary depending on the PCB used. The complete input solution can be tailored according to your specific application specifications and it is clearly visible when illuminated in the darkest application environments. Additional protection requirements can be addressed accordingly. IP ratings of IP54 and higher can be handled easily.

During a presentation entitled “Development of a Noise-Free Position Encoding Device for Spaceflight Use”, the joint development work was introduced this September in Konstanz, Germany.

Last year, Hoffmann + Krippner was approached by MOOG Inc., a worldwide leading manufacturer of precision motion control products and systems, to develop a series of position sensors for space flight and satellite applications based on the SENSOFOIL® product line. By the end of the development phase, the position sensor was to withstand the extreme conditions in outer space.

The new potentiometer concept is based a rotary version of the patented SENSOFOIL®-Hybrid technology, fulfilling the requirements for space applications. Specific parameters have to be more strictly observed compared to those necessary for applications on earth. Reliable functionality in high vacuum conditions and the materials’ release of gases play a key role.

Unique features of this product are the missing noise and drop out characteristics commonly associated with conventional potentiometers, the ultra flat design and linearity better than 0.25%.

Attendees at the symposium were captured by this technology, as revealed during subsequent discussions - the level of innovation and resulting possibilities were ranked very high.

As PC keyboards are known to be breeding grounds for germs and viruses, hazardous conditions arise for both patients and staff due to possible cross contamination. Typical computer keyboards are difficult to disinfect and commonly used keyboard covers become porous after frequent cleaning.

The CleanBoard® features a high-end non-porous film surface, resistant to disinfection liquids and alcohol. It is splash proof due to its fully sealed surface according to IP 65 / NEMA 4X. A disinfection reminder is integrated into the CleanBoard® via LED lights, monitoring recommended intervals between cleaning to ensuring sanitary operation. It is not necessary to disconnect the keyboard from any medical devices or remove it from the current operating location for routine cleaning, as all keys can be disabled by simply pressing one key.

The CleanBoard® is equipped with an integrated mousepad and number block, compatible with 10 finger typing.
